Birth Support

Birth is an incredible transformation to be a part of. This is an experience that leaves me heart filled and breathless every time I am able to participate in a client's birth story. I have a nonjudgmental approach to coaching labor and birth. First of all, I am proud of you. You have carried this new life, shifted and stretched your body, mind, and heart. Whether via cesarean or vaginally, you will birth your baby. I am honored to provide support to you during this momentous, transformational time in your life.

As defined by DONA International, a birth doula is a trained and experienced professional who provides continuous physical, emotional, and informational support to the mother before, during, and after birth.

Numerous clinical studies have shown that a doula's presence at birth:

  • Tends to result in shorter labors with fewer complications

  • Reduces negative feelings about one's childbirth experience

  • Reduces the need for Pitocin (a labor-inducing drug), forceps or vacuum extraction, and cesarians

  • Reduces the mother's request for pain medication and/or epidurals

Research shows parents who receive support can:

  • Feel more secure and cared for

  • Are more successful in adapting to new family dynamics

  • Have greater success with breastfeeding

  • Have greater self-confidence

  • Have less post-partum depression

why physical therapy in the birth room?

A physical therapist is a medical expert in musculoskeletal anatomy, physiology, and kinesiology. This provides a unique perspective to the progression of labor and birth with respect to various musculoskeletal considerations. Whether birthing vaginally or via cesarean delivery, a physical therapist is a valuable partner in preparation, progression, and recovery from birth.
